How to Ensure That Your Fluid Transport System Remains Leak-Free

Get Rid of Pipe Threads

Many older hydraulic plumbing systems were made using threaded pipes. Such hydraulic systems are likely to leak because the threads provide a path through which fluid eventually finds its way out of the pressurised system. For instance, fluid may start leaking in case a technician tightens a thread connection to the extent that the threads are deformed.

Avoid taking such a risk by getting rid of all threaded pipe connections in the hydraulic system. Replace them with connectors that don't have threads.

Check for Hardened Seals

It is sometimes inevitable that operating temperatures within an industrial fluid transportation system will exceed the safe parameters. Such high-temperature conditions can cause seals to harden. Those hardened seals then become unable to flex as they control fluid movement. This can create favourable conditions for fluid leaks.

It is therefore very important for you to create an inspection system that enables hardened seals to be quickly identified and replaced before fluid leaks begin. You should also consider installing a heat exchanger within the hydraulic system so that you can reduce the frequency of temperature spikes that harden seals.

Control Vibration

Sometimes, hydraulic system leaks may result from vibratory forces acting on the pipe system. The vibrations may originate from nearby equipment. You can reduce the damage from such vibrations by taking a number of steps. First, create a junction block so that there is a smooth transition between a moving hose and a rigid section of the hydraulic plumbing. Secondly, you can also change the routing of the hydraulic plumbing so that the worst of the vibrations is avoided by the fluid transport system. It may also be helpful to secure all the machinery onto the ground so that the source of the vibrations is addressed. You should also ensure that the hydraulic plumbing is secured so that the pressure of the fluid being transported does not cause the network to vibrate until leaks eventually develop.
